Our Brain Bank is dedicated to advancing research in neuroscience through brain tissue donation and preservation. We aim to unlock the mysteries of the human brain and provide essential resources for researchers worldwide.
Our Mission
We strive to bridge the gap between donors and science by creating a repository of brain tissues for critical research into neurological conditions and brain function.
Advancing Neuroscience for a Healthier Tomorrow
(1) Develop, standardize, and harmonize protocols for collection, freezing, and neuropathological diagnosis among satellite biobanks and brain banks.
(2) Develop gold standards for tissue handling, safety, quality control, and ethics and evaluate cost-effective methods of tissue preservation applicable to our country
(3) Capacity building & manpower development through workshops and short-term training programs in Biobanking practices
(4) Popularize tissue/ organ donation among professionals and community to promote research
1) Develop common database of cases as per protocols developed for minimal clinical information to accompany the cases. Data will be centrally held in NIMHANS Brain Bank server for satellite banks to access.
2) Develop website for researchers to access database and send requests for tissues online
3) Establish guidelines and protocols for transparency in exchange of tissues and fluids with other Bio Banks to promote research in line with ICMR guidelines for Biomedical Research.
4) This network will be registered with other networks such as ISBER
5) Set up satellite Brain Museums as national resource for medical and public education.
